How do I know that you are the right tutor for me?

You can not know unless you try. I offer a phone consultation, or, a free 30 minutes assessment meeting before you commit to a tutoring relationship.

What will happen at our initial meeting?

I offer a free assessment to understand your current level, then, we will discuss your goals, strategy and plan. You should bring your textbook, and anything related to Chinese learning. At the end, I will leave you a tutoring agreement. After confirming our tutoring relationship, I will make a course description based on your individual needs/goals.

What are your teaching methods and teaching tools ?

I use various tools for students of different level and different learning styles.

In general, I want my students to have fun while learning.

Below are some of the teaching tools I will be using:

LOCI ( an ancient method helps with memory) + Memorise( an app helps to build up vocabulary) + Chieasy (recognizing the Chinese characters)+ Coaching( a method works for medium and advanced level) + Personal Interest ( a method works especially for creative students)

What kind of material do you use?

If you are taking Chinese lesson from school, we will focus on your textbook and add a little extra materials from different sources.

However, if you are an adult who do not want to follow textbook, I will offer you a  curriculum designed for adult learners. In addition, I will use videos, audios and apps d

uring the class.

How frequent should we meet?

Depends on your goal within a given time frame, it is suggested to meet 3 to 5 times a week, gradually reduce to 1-3 times a week.

How long is the session?

The suggestion length for kids is 45 minutes to 1 hour, depends on their attention span.

For adults, it is suggested 1.5 hours unless there is a special need such as ADHD or some other learning issues.

How much do you charge for the session?

It depends on how often we meet. It could vary from $45-&60 an hour.

I usually work and my kids go to school, when can we meet for tutoring sessions?

I work from Monday to Friday 9am-8pm, Saturday 9am-5pm.

Where do we meet for the sessions?

The best is to meet at the public library. We can book a private study room in advance.

Are there any difference between in person and online sessions?

There are differences for sure. You are more likely to remember more if we meet in person because your body picks up the muscle movement when I am next to you.
